There have been increasing numbers of people seeking surgery following massive weight loss. Some have managed this through diet alone but most will have had bariatric surgery (gastric banding or bypass) and may have lost 10 stones (60Kg) or more.
Despite the great benefits to health (eg diabetes may be cured, less strain on the joints) many patients will see the loose folds of skin on their body and still feel fat. Alternative patterns of skin removal are sometimes needed to remove this excess tissue such as the Fleur de Lys abdominoplasty, body lift or buttock lift. Thigh and arm reduction along with procedures on the breast such as mastopexy may be needed. Often these procedures can be combined during one anaesthetic and hospital stay.
